About Office of the President

The Office of the President is the highest executive authority in the Republic of South Sudan. Established under Article 97 of the Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan, 2011 (as amended), the President serves as Head of State and Government.

Upon assuming office, the President takes a constitutional oath to obey, preserve, and defend the Constitution, promote unity among the people, strengthen democratic governance, and advance the welfare and dignity of all citizens. The Office supervises constitutional and executive institutions, presides over the Council of Ministers and appoints constitutional and judicial officers.

Article 101 of the Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan 2011(as amended) vests executive authority to the president and he is responsible for preserving national security and protecting the territorial integrity of South Sudan, directs foreign policy, appoints the ambassadors, receives foreign ambassadorial credentials, and ratifies treaties and international agreements.

The Office of the President promotes peace, stability, and advances development priorities in line with the people of South Sudan.
